USSR Silver Rouble 1924NA MS 62

The USSR rouble was the standard unit of currency in the Soviet Union from its founding in 1922 until its dissolution in 1991. Coins were minted in a variety of denominations and metals, ranging from base metals for circulation to commemorative issues struck in silver or gold. Designs often featured state symbols such as the hammer and sickle, the Soviet star, or portraits of leaders, reflecting the political and ideological character of the regime.

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was established in 1922 following the Russian Revolution and the civil war that overthrew the Russian Empire. It was a one-party socialist state led by the Communist Party, with Moscow as its capital. Under leaders such as Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, and their successors, the USSR transformed into a major world power, industrializing rapidly and playing a central role in World War II. After 1945, it emerged as one of two global superpowers, leading the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War. The Soviet Union combined strict central control with cultural, scientific, and military achievements, but also faced repression, shortages, and dissent. In 1991, after decades of internal strain and political reform attempts, the USSR dissolved, and its republics became independent states.
