The Mercury dime, also called the Winged Liberty Head dime, was minted from 1916 to 1945.  Its obverse depicts Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian winged cap, resembling the god Mercury, hence the name.  The reverse shows a fasces and an olive branch.  Mercury dimes are composed of 90% silver and 10% copper.  This dime was minted by the Philadelphia mint in 1940.

This coin was graded MS 66 FB (mint state 66 full bands), using the Sheldon grading scale from 1 to 70.  The “full bands” designation means that the split in the central bands on the fasces on the coin reverse is visible, which is evidence of a sharp strike.  This grade was determined by the Numismatic Grading Company, the official grading service of the American Numismatic Association and the Professional Numismatists Guild. Here is the list of grades the NGC uses for these coins.
